Anointed for a Specific Assignment

In the old covenant, no one took a priestly, prophetic, or kingly role without the anointing. The anointing in the new covenant goes beyond oil — it comes through the infilling of the Holy Ghost, and it is the signature of God upon our lives. No believer was born to warm a bench. God observed a vacuum somewhere, and that is the reason he raised someone like you.

Every person's destiny is as unique as a fingerprint. God chose you because no one else will have your sound, your voice, your insight, your audacity, or your authenticity. Every failure, every mistake, every dark chapter is part of your becoming — because you discovered every trick of the enemy and can now expose it.

Don't Fight Your Eliab

When David arrived at the battlefield and began asking what would be done for the man who removed this reproach from Israel, his eldest brother Eliab was furious. He called David proud, naughty, evil-hearted, and overconfident.

David's reply was disarming: "Is there not a cause?"

In other words: Brother, the battle is not between me and you. There is a Goliath out there. I will not leave my assignment and start fighting you.

Before you confront your Goliath, there will always be Eliabs who want to make themselves your battle. Some of us have missed our season because we were fighting battles that were not ours — battles of offense, unforgiveness, church politics, and wounded pride. The assignment was too sacred to lose focus.

David did not dignify Eliab with a prolonged argument. He answered simply and moved forward. Do not let Eliab distract you. Eliab is not your goal.

Before the Palace, the Atmosphere

David was anointed as king in 1 Samuel 16, and the Bible says the Spirit of God came upon him from that day forward. Simultaneously, an evil spirit from God came upon Saul. A search was made for someone who could play and bring relief — and David was brought to the palace.

He had not yet been crowned king, but he was already driving evil spirits out of the space he was anointed to occupy. The evil spirit in government could have blocked David from ever assuming the throne he was anointed for. Without knowing it, David was clearing the atmosphere of the place he was called to inhabit.

There are things you need to do that are prophetic. There are places you need to enter that are prophetic. The anointing upon your life is aggression from hell — and hell reacts because the oil you carry is a threat.

Goliath Was an Announcement

The anointing of David in chapter 16 was private. The encounter with Goliath in chapter 17 was the public announcement. After Goliath fell, the women sang and declared David's greatness across the nation. David never campaigned for himself. God used Goliath to announce him.

Every battle against you is an announcement of your new season. The devil does not stop people who are not a threat. Every Goliath that rises against you is proof that something in heaven is certifying that you are dangerous to the enemy's kingdom.

The Heart God Qualifies

When Samuel was looking for a king in Jesse's house, God said of Eliab: "I have refused him." Not because Eliab was not strong or tall — but because the Lord looks at the heart. God was shopping for a specific heart posture.

David's heart was revealed in the bush. When a lion took one of his father's sheep, he did not say, "At least ninety-nine remain." He went after the lion. His heart would not accept loss without a fight — not for selfish reasons, but because the sheep mattered. That is a kingdom heart. The assignment first. Not me first.

The bush lessons were heart checks. The breakthroughs that came earlier in your life — those were not even the real ones. They were heart checks. The platforms, the doors, the relationships — God was watching how you would respond. Would you take the glory? Would you fight your brother? Would you stay humble under pressure? Everything is about the heart.
