You Have A Part To Play (100 Days Of Discipleship — Day 65) by Apostle Emmanuel Iren: MP3 Download & Sermon Notes
If You Are Thirsty, The Problem Is Not The Supply — It's That You Haven't Been Drinking
lightbulb Message Summary - Key Nuggets
- The Supply Is Not the Problem — You Are: John 7:37 — "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink." The Spirit has been poured out on all flesh. If you are not full, it is your responsibility, not God's withholding.
- Draw Near and He Will Draw Near: James 4:8 — God always matches your energy. Your walk with God is a report card on you, not on Him. He will always be found by those who seek Him.
- Consistency Beats Intensity: A prayer life of 40 minutes every day beats 6 hours once a month. Consistent sowing in the Spirit produces consistent fruit.
- Fervency Is a Hack: It is not just what you do — it is the intensity with which you do it. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man makes power available. James 5:16
- You Must Have a Personal Retreat: If your spiritual apathy is severe, respond the way a very hungry person responds — decisively and immediately. Shut down everything and go find God.

The Supply Is Not the Problem
John 7:37: "On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.'" He added: he who believes in me, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water — this He spoke of the Spirit.
In the Old Testament, you had to be in a special category to receive the Spirit — a prophet, a priest, a king. Now in the New Covenant, the Spirit has been poured out on all flesh. The promise is to everyone. If you are thirsty, the problem is not the supply — it is that you haven't been drinking.
You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. God has supplied. You must drink. Whatever your spiritual experience is right now, it is a report card on you — not on Him. He is faithful. He is always there. Have you been showing up?
God Matches Your Energy
James 4:8: "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." Matthew 7:7-8: "Ask and it shall be given. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who seeks finds."
Not some who ask — everyone. The differentiator is not God's willingness; it is your consistency. Jeremiah 29:13: "You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart." The qualifier is the whole heart — not a divided, halfhearted reach.
Consistency Beats Intensity
A prayer life of 40 minutes every day will outperform a 6-hour marathon once a month every time. If you keep your spirit consistently engaged, the depth will compound over time. The person who prays only in emergencies will always feel like they're starting from scratch. The person who tends the altar daily finds it already warm.
Acts 2:42: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in breaking of bread, and in prayers." The key word is continued steadfastly — the Greek implies a relentless, persistent, uninterrupted devotion.
Fervency — Not Just Going Through the Motions
Romans 12:11: "Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord." It is not just what you do — it is the intensity with which you do it. James 5:16: "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
Imagine Jesus is physically in the room. Pray like it. Pray like what you are praying about actually matters. Pray with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Love the Lord your God — not as a ritual, but as a person.
Respond to Spiritual Apathy Decisively
If you recognise spiritual apathy in yourself, respond the way a very hungry person responds: decisively and immediately. Go and eat. If the hunger is severe — fast from other things, schedule a retreat, shut down distractions for a concentrated season. God will be found. He guarantees it.
Wherever you are in your walk with God, it is your responsibility. Start today. Talk to God. Seek Him. He is not far.
