Scripture Text
Deuteronomy 7:1-2 — When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee — the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou — and when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee, thou shalt smite them and utterly destroy them. Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them.
Note that last phrase: nor show mercy unto them. This is not only talking about a people — it is talking about issues, circumstances, and spiritual forces arrayed against destiny.
The Seven Nations and What They Represent
God was not merely interested in chasing out these seven nations as people. Each nation name carries a spiritual meaning that represents a demonic assignment against the child of God:
- The Girgashite — means to turn back from your pilgrimage. To go back from your journey. This is the spirit that pushes people back from progress just when breakthrough is near.
- The Canaanite — represents transactions that drain and diminish. Encounters and engagements that make you come out emptier than when you went in. The enemy takes your faith and gives you fear. Jesus entered the temple and said: there are wrong transactions here.
- The Jebusite — means to trample. The Jebusite spirit wants to trample on you — to stand on your vision, stand on your heart's desire, and declare: it is the end. Nothing new will come out of this. As soon as Goliath fell, David stood on him. Trampling signals the end — and the Jebusite spirit operates to make the child of God feel that their destiny is finished.
The Enemy Is Subtle and Patient
The devil is not ignorant of devices. He is a subtle being who can wait for two generations before resurfacing. He can keep quiet for one year, two years, three years, four years, five years — and then meet you at your fifth year. When he comes, you will trace it back to something that happened long ago.
But the believer is not ignorant of his devices either. 2 Corinthians 2:11 — We are not ignorant of the devices of the enemy.
Stargazers: Powers That Watch Your Star
There are stargazers — those who watch your star and want to see it fall. This is exactly what Herod said: when you find where He is, show me, that I may go and worship Him. But Herod was lying — he wanted to kill the star.
There are powers that have arisen to make sure your star does not see the light of day. Powers that have stationed themselves to halt the rising of your destiny. But the theme of this service is: Rule in the Midst of Your Enemies.
When the girl in the testimony prayed from her heart, there was a strongman somewhere who had spoken a word: "Until my last child is married, none of your household will marry in their own house." There are people whose delay is not natural — it is the result of a word spoken by someone who has been watching their star.
Arise and Shine — Rule Now
Isaiah 60:1-2 — Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. At the sound of the enemy, let it be reversed. Let the fullness of your life bust out.
Powers operating against your destiny — the Girgashite that wants you to go back, the Canaanite that drains and diminishes, the Jebusite that tramples and declares it is over — the Lord commands their destruction.
Whatever stood on your vision, stood on your heart's desire, and said it is the end — let it be reversed. Today is your day of ruling in the midst of your enemies.
My Father, my Father — any wickedness coming in my direction, return it to where it is coming from. Every power assigned to drain me, diminish me, push me backwards — I destroy you now in the name of Jesus. I rule in the midst of my enemies. My star will not be killed. My destiny will not be stopped. Arise and shine — for my light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon me. In Jesus' name.
At the sound of your amen, you are not going back with it. You are not going back to lack, to defeat, to stagnation. You are ruling — right now, in the midst of your enemies.
