You Are Already Anointed

The anointing is not reserved for those standing behind a pulpit. 1 John 2:20 — 'You have an anointing from the Holy One and you know all things.' Psalm 45:7 speaks of being anointed with the oil of gladness above your fellows. Acts 10:38 says God anointed Jesus with Holy Ghost and power, and he went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. The same anointing — Holy Ghost and power — is at work in every true believer. This is not the smearing of physical oil. This is the operations of the supernatural in your life.

Do not leave the declaration of the anointing only to those on a platform. You also have an anointing on your life. Do not forget this.

Now, the anointed can be lied to. And there are specific lies the enemy deploys against every believer who understands who they are in Christ. Seven of them emerge clearly from 1 Samuel 17, the account of David and Goliath.

Lie 1: You Are Nothing

As soon as Goliath looked at David, the Bible uses a specific word: he disdained him. The colon that follows in the text introduces the reason — 'for he was but a youth.' Something true about David became the basis for contempt. There is always something true about you that the enemy will use as a reason to hold you in contempt.

David was young. That was true. Goliath was a veteran soldier of no mean standing. That was also true. But truth is not the final word. The lie the enemy tells the anointed is: you are nothing. You do not measure up. Who do you think you are to believe God for this?

Your identity is not a standalone. You are who you are because of whose you are.

Many believers know who they are in Christ — they have memorised the identity declarations, they can quote the scriptures. But after a while, they forget who Christ is. They keep declaring who they are while losing sight of the one who gave them that identity. 'I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus' — that is powerful. But what is energising the declaration? If it is courage or positive thinking, it will falter when the pressure increases. If it is the word of God — if you know precisely where that identity is grounded in Scripture — it has eternal value and no lie of the enemy can puncture it.

There is no you without God. Your life is hid in Christ and Christ is in God. So even if the enemy attacks who you are, he cannot attack whose you are. And it is whose you are that ultimately settles every matter. Your identity is connected to your Father. In him you live, in him you move, in him you have your being.

The energy of your identity is the word that supports it. Faith is not emergency boldness — it is not waking up one morning feeling courageous and declaring things. Faith is the accumulated weight of the word of God built over time. Two people can say the same declaration with the same tone, but one is speaking from word-built faith and the other from momentary courage. The outcomes will be different. I am who I am because of whose I am.

Lie 2: What You See Is All You Are

Goliath looked at David and saw a staff. He concluded: this is the extent of this person. Am I a dog that you come to me with a staff?

But Goliath saw only the staff. He did not know about the stone. He did not know about the sling. What the enemy can see about you is not all that you are.

David did not come to this fight as a soldier. He came as a shepherd boy with a shepherd's tools — a staff, a bag of stones, a sling. The winning strategy was completely hidden from the enemy. And note the wisdom: David did not feel the need to open the bag and show Goliath the stones. He did not say: let me tell you what I have in here. He just came. What Goliath assessed was the staff. What Goliath did not know about was the stone.

They can copy your staff. They cannot copy your stone.

Stop showing everyone your stone. We live in an age that demands full visibility — show us all that you are, prove your value, display your strategy. But what set David apart was precisely what people did not see. Whatever is happening around you right now is not all that you can become. There is more anointing. There is more grace. There is more of what God has prepared — and eyes have not seen it, ears have not heard it, neither has it entered into the heart of man.

Keep your stone until the right time. Don't be under pressure to prove yourself to those who are assessing you by your staff.

Lie 3: What You Carry Will Consume You

Goliath said: 'Come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field.'

Return to Genesis 1:26. God gave man dominion — over the fish of the sea, over the fowl of the air, over every creeping thing. The birds were already under Adam's authority. Goliath's threat was to hand David over to the very creatures that God had already placed under the anointed's feet.

Goliath did not know about dominion. What God gave you dominion over has no legal right to dominate you.

Every time a disease rises, every time a financial condition asserts itself, every time a spiritual oppression lifts its head — it is attempting to reverse the dominion mandate. It has no legal authority to do that. Afflictions are under the feet of the anointed. Diseases are under the feet of the anointed. Every lie from the pit of hell is under the feet of the anointed. Scriptures are full of what God has already said is dominated. Do not let what you have been given dominion over start dominating you.

What you called sickness in the place of prayer is still what it is — not your portion. What you called delay and closed the door on is still closed. The verdict of heaven over that matter is still what it is. If it has grown and looks bigger, that does not change the verdict. What David said to Saul about Goliath before the battle — 'This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of the lion and the bear I already killed' — that verdict did not change when Goliath insulted him. The outcome had already been declared.

Lie 4: Back Away

Goliath drew near to David — he advanced, he charged. What every instinct would expect is that David begins to retreat. But the Bible says that as soon as the Philistine arose and came forward, David hasted and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

David charged back.

The enemy does not expect the anointed to advance. The devil's tactic is to make a move and watch you go into depression, discouragement, retreat, withdrawal. If you run when the dog charges at you, the dog follows. If you turn and face the dog, the dog often backs down. Bullies are cowards. They are counting on you to go back.

When the devil sends delay, the anointed response is to shake it off and press. When he sends a bad report, the anointed picks it up and says: I am not going back. I do not care how this looks. What I called this in the place of prayer is still what it is. You are not going to go back into depression because pressure arrived. You charge back at what charges at you.

Jesus was made manifest to destroy all the works of the enemy. Not to endure them — to destroy them. The anointed walks in that same authority.

Lie 5: The Things You Have Dominion Over Will Eat You

Already addressed — but it bears a second look. Goliath threatened to give David's flesh to the birds of the air. Those same birds were under the dominion mandate given to every human being in Genesis. God had already said: you have dominion over the fowl of the air. Goliath was threatening to hand David over to his own subordinates.

God has given authority over lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life. He has given power to mortify the deeds of the body. Whatever the enemy is trying to use to dominate — addiction, fear, chronic sin, the pull of the world — if God has given dominion over it, it has no permission to rule over the anointed. Command it back under your feet.

Lie 6: Your Situation Has Fully Defined You

Goliath continued: 'Am I a dog that you come to me with a staff? Come to me.' He was inviting David into a narrative where David was already losing before the fight began.

The anointed never enters anyone else's narrative. There is already a verdict spoken in the place of prayer. What you have called your situation is what it is — regardless of how the enemy attempts to reframe it. What you called it before is still what it is.

The enemy has no authority to rename your situation. He can describe it. He can show it to you from his angle. But the name you have placed on it in faith — sealed by the word of God — is the name that stands.

The Gift Inside the Battle

David came to the battlefield with a stone and a sling. He did not carry a sword. But Goliath had a sword.

After the stone struck and Goliath fell face-down, David ran, stood on him, took Goliath's own sword, drew it, and cut off his head. He then put Goliath's armor in his own tent. He brought the head to Jerusalem — evidence of the victory. But Goliath's weapons he kept for himself.

He came with a stone. He left with a sword.

There are things you are calling battles right now. But God has wrapped a gift inside them. God has packaged a blessing inside what looks like adversity. The battle is not only a test — it is a transfer. What the enemy brought against you, God will use to enrich you. The weapon they lifted against your life, your family, your career, your business — God intends to put it in your tent.

Before the battle is over, look for what God is about to hand you. Because what you came into this season with is not what you will leave with. There is a sword in the hand of the enemy — and it belongs to you.

Every sword of wickedness lifted against your life, your children, your relationships, your business — let it walk against them. Let their conspiracy work against them. Let every word spoken in dark places concerning your name become a boomerang. Let their sword cut off their own heads. And let you arise from this season with the evidence of what God has done in your hand.

Father, we agree with the verdict of heaven. We are anointed for this. We do not retreat — we charge. What you have given us dominion over will not dominate us. And what looks like a battle, we receive as a gift in transit. In Jesus name, amen.
