What Is Camp Meeting About?

Camp meeting is a 3-day gathering to spend quality time in God's word, in prayer, and in worship. Think of it as a large family meeting in the presence of God. The purpose is not a conference centred on a platform or a personality. It is centred on Jesus.

What Makes This Camp Meeting Special

The theme is the revelation of Jesus. We see him — and in seeing him, we see ourselves as he sees us in him. As he is glorified, we see how we ought to be. The attention is on the person of Jesus, not on a program.

There are no guest ministers. That is intentional. The focus is the word, and the word is about Jesus.

Who Should Come

This camp meeting is specifically designed for new believers. The sessions cover the foundational things of the Christian faith:

• What did Jesus die for?
• How do you appropriate what Jesus has done?

The teaching will be very doctrinal — very basic, very foundational. New converts will not want to miss it.

For those who have been in Christ for a while, the meetings also serve another purpose: to teach you how to communicate these foundational truths to new believers. 2 Timothy 2:2 — "The things you have heard among many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Camp meeting is where you get the framework for doing that.

James says a man who hears the word but doesn't do it is like one who looks in a mirror and immediately forgets what he saw. Camp meeting is a mirror. Come, see yourself, and don't forget.

At the end of the gathering, everyone should be edified — Jesus glorified, believers edified. We see him, and we see ourselves as he sees us in him.

How to Prepare

• Come physically if at all possible.
• Pray towards it. Come with an expectation — that what you receive will be confirmation of what God has promised you.
• Fast if you can. Come prayed up.
• Bring writing materials. That is an act of faith — saying that God will tell you things worth writing down.
• Bring your Bible.
• Invite someone. Be the woman at the well in John 4 — go into your city and say, "Come, see someone who has told me everything pertaining to my life."
