You Were Knit Together — Not Mass Produced

Psalms 139:13-16

God knitted you together in your mother's womb. Have you watched someone knit — the precision, the patience, the deliberateness of each stitch? That is how God made you. Your DNA is unique to you. Nobody has your exact combination of fingerprints, voice, and makeup. You are not an accident.

Your parents may have been accidental parents. You are not an accidental child. They were unprepared for you — God was not. He was watching as every feature of your body formed in the dark of the womb. And verse 16 says: all the days ordained for you were written in his book before one of them came to pass.

God has a book with your name on it. He saw every day of your life before you lived one of them.

Say Not That You Are a Child

Jeremiah 1:5-7

God said to Jeremiah: before I formed you in the belly I knew you. Before you came out of the womb I ordained you a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah's response was fear: Lord, I cannot speak — I am a child.

God's response was immediate: say not that you are a child. Whatever feeling of incompetence you are carrying — say not that thing. The things you say come alive. There is power in your tongue. What you declare over yourself has authority.

When God started the church through this ministry, there was no money, no experience, no ordination, no one to run to. No Bible school. No pastoral background — only nine years in a choir. Everything screamed incompetence. But God does not look at your pocket when he calls you — he looks at his own.

God blesses you according to his riches, not according to your need. When he wants to bless, he looks at what he has — not what you lack.

Two Kinds of Fear That Hold People Back

The fear that stops people from walking into God's purpose comes in layers:

  • Internal fear — fear of your own weaknesses, your past sins, your background, your feelings of inadequacy. Moses said he stammered. Jeremiah said he was a child. Paul called himself the chief of sinners. God used all of them.
  • External fear — fear of people's reactions, fear of rejection, fear of things not working, fear of suffering, fear of the task itself.

Feelings of incompetence are also what keep some people in toxic relationships. They stay because in their heart they believe nobody else will want them. The person they are with is breaking them down deliberately, isolating them from friends and family. And yet they stay because fear says: who else?

If someone comes into your life and the first thing they do is separate you from everyone who loved you before — they are from the enemy. Isolation before destruction is a strategy of the devil.

God's purpose for you is not diminished by your fear. He is still calling. He is still writing. He is still watching. Say not that you are a child — and go.

Fear is a liar. You are accepted in the beloved. You are sent. Go.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."

- Apostle Emmanuel Iren
