The Confidence of Answered Prayer
1 John 5:14-15 — this is the confidence that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know he hears us, then whatever petitions we have brought, we know we already have it.
What does that mean? It means the problem is not even the answering. The problem was the hearing. That was always the problem.
From Genesis, when the fall happened, the problem has always been: how do we get God to hear us? And so all kinds of animals were killed so that God can hear. Why was he not hearing? Because their sins had come between them and God.
So the first foundation that must be laid before miracles can happen is that he should even hear us. He can't answer a prayer he did not hear.
All through the ages, people kept trying to get to God through all kinds of imperfect means. And he, a loving Father, provided those means so that at least his children can reach him — so that at least he could hear them. But those means were imperfect. There was always something that separated man from God and prevented God from hearing fully.
And then Jesus came.
