Apostle Emmanuel Iren Preaching - These Things Are Affecting Your Sensitivity to God (100 Days of Discipleship — Day 62)
Sermon

lightbulb Message Summary - Key Nuggets

  • Weed the Garden — Not Just Plant Seeds: Spiritual growth is not only about what you add — it is about what you remove. Just as agriculture requires weeding, faith requires clearing out the things that compete with it.
  • Evil Association Corrupts: 1 Corinthians 15:33 — evil communication corrupts good manners. The company you keep shapes your spiritual sensitivity more than you realise, even when you disagree with them.
  • Mammon Is a Rival God: When your sensitivity to God is dependent on the state of your bank account, Mammon has taken a seat in your heart. You cannot serve two masters. Structure your finances so that money stays in its place.
  • Lust and the Pride of Life Dull Sensitivity: Driving a car you cannot afford, buying a phone because everyone else is — these are expressions of pride of life. Learning to say no deliberately is spiritual discipline.
  • Distraction Breaks the Thread of Intercession: If you cannot think about one person or situation for one continuous hour without interruption, you are too distracted to steward the anointing of God. Focus is a spiritual weapon.

Weed the Garden — Not Just Plant Seeds

In agriculture, it is not enough to plant seeds. You must also clear the weeds — otherwise they compete for the same nutrients and choke the crop. The same principle applies to spiritual growth. Building faith is not only about adding devotional practices. It is about identifying and removing the things that compete with faith.

You believe with your spirit. Doubting is done with your head. It is possible to believe in your spirit that God can do all things, while your educated mind — fed by the wrong inputs — keeps sowing doubt. There are things that actively feed unbelief. Address those.

Evil Association — The Slow Erosion

1 Corinthians 15:33: "Do not be deceived: evil company corrupts good habits." Notice the warning: do not be deceived. Because the deception is subtle. You think you are fine. You think you are not being influenced. You can disagree with what they say and still absorb the spirit behind it.

There was a period of about two weeks where, after spending time with friends who were dabbling in scepticism and doubt, there was a noticeable dullness — visions dried up, the sense of God's presence grew faint. The moment it was addressed in prayer, the flow returned immediately. Guard the company you keep. It shapes your spiritual atmosphere more than you realise.

Mammon — The Rival God

Matthew 6:24: "You cannot serve God and mammon." Mammon is not just money — it is money elevated to the position of trust and security that belongs to God. A warning sign: if your sensitivity to God rises and falls with the state of your finances — running to Him when broke, drifting when comfortable — Mammon has a hold.

Structure your finances deliberately so that money stays in its proper place:

  • Have a regular, committed giving plan — not driven by emotions
  • Give sacrificially at least once a year regardless of how you feel
  • Don't allow the size of your balance to determine the size of your faith

Lust and the Pride of Life

Are you driving a car you cannot afford? Buying a phone because everyone else is? The pride of life — keeping up appearances, living above your means — is not just a financial problem. It is a spiritual one. It trains your flesh to demand what it wants, and a flesh that gets what it demands will eventually demand things that destroy you.

Practise deliberate self-denial in small things. Pause a game voluntarily. Skip a purchase you could afford, just to prove it doesn't own you. If you cannot walk away from it, you are not disciplined — and the enemy can use it.

Distraction — The Leaking of the Anointing

If you cannot think about one person, one situation, or one prayer focus for one continuous hour without your mind wandering to notifications, social media, or concerns — you are too distracted to steward the anointing of God effectively.

Compassion is one of the channels through which the anointing flows. Mark 1:41: "Jesus, moved with compassion, reached out and healed him." Focus is what allows compassion to build to the point where it triggers the supernatural. Fragmented attention produces fragmented spiritual impact.

Clear the weeds: wrong associations, Mammon, lust, pride, distraction. When your faith can grow without contest, it will grow further and faster than you ever imagined.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
