Faith Comes by Hearing
Romans 10:17 — faith comes by hearing. In any area of your life where you need faith, you need to hear more in that area. There is no other rule to it. You cannot worship your way into faith. You cannot prophesy your way into faith. You cannot pray in tongues your way into faith.
The Bible says to build yourself in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost — it did not say to build your faith by praying in the Holy Ghost. When you pray in the Holy Ghost, your heart is charged to go for what you have already believed. But you cannot build faith that way. Faith only comes by hearing the word of God.
The Law of Attention
Mark 4:23-24 — if any man has ears to hear, let him hear. And He said unto them: take heed what you hear. The NLT says: pay close attention to what you hear.
Jesus said attention is the price you pay for understanding. The issue of attention is a big deal in our generation. The comprehension deficit we see outside the church has entered the body of Christ. There are people who sit down and give the appearance of listening but hear nothing.
The real meaning of the word understand is that the thing is now under you — you are standing on it. You have dominion. If you understand physics, you have dominion over it. The closer you listen, the more understanding you are given — and with understanding, you know how to receive and use what you have been given.
The reason Paul, when preaching in Acts, could perceive a man had faith to be healed — faith is perceptible. It can be seen. And it is built by close, attentive, repeated hearing.
Laws Reviewed and the Law of Single-Mindedness
The laws of faith covered to this point include: the law of knowledge, the law of speaking, the law of thanksgiving, and the law of single-mindedness.
Single-mindedness means total and complete dependency on God. Before you say "Jesus, you are the only one I have," you must delete the alternatives first. You cannot keep alternatives on the side while claiming total dependency. If God cannot do it, leave it. That is faith.
The law of thanksgiving works all the time. A grateful person will get more from God. Don't be anxious for anything — in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known. It works. Murmuring blocks the flow.
The Law of Corresponding Action
James 2:17-20, 26 — even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being alone. As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.
Faith is displayed by what you do. If you believe it, you will behave it. Corresponding action now.
All the people that Hebrews 11 commends — they acted out their faith. Moses moved. Noah moved. They didn't merely believe — they moved. Faith that does not move you will not move your mountain.
Faith is not sitting back at home, folding your hands, and saying God said it. Many times you have to go out and take it. God said to Moses in Deuteronomy 2: I have given you Sihon the Amorite and his land — begin to possess it.
A man heard a declaration in church that all shut doors are now open. He waited for them to call him back for the job — they did not call. He went there himself. He said: "I'm already here." They said: "Okay, can you resume today?" Yes, he resumed.
That is corresponding action. You believe; therefore you move.
Faith must move you. No matter how reasonable, how tenable, how good your excuse is — it will never convert your failure to success. God said to Moses: Move. There was a sea. Move.
Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray for strength of heart. We pray for the grace and the power to obey, to do what God has called us to do, in Jesus' name.
