The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

The thief comes not but to steal, kill, and destroy. But Christ said, John 10:10 — his purpose is to give rich and satisfying life. If it is not satisfying, if it is not rich, it has not touched divine purpose.

Warfare is real. The battles of life are real. The challenges and oppositions of life are real — and they are to the degree of death. Satan literally wants you destroyed, killed, and cut off.

Ephesians 6:12 — we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places.

2 Corinthians 10:3–4 — though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

Denying the battle will not stop it. Confronting it is what stops it.

Yet every time Scripture tells us we are in battle with the devil, in the same breath it shows us our advantage in God. The devil comes to steal and destroy — but it does not stop there. He said, "But I am come." So we are not intimidated by the battles we face, because in every battle is the potential for victory.

You will drown in battle if you become more conscious of the battle than of the advantages you have in God while you are yet going through it.

For every present battle, there is a more present help of God. Your duty — without denying the battles you go through — is to recognise what has been made available and deploy it. This is where the secret of the advantage of the believer lies.

What Is Eternal Life?

One of the major reasons for the manifestation of the Son of Man was to bring you victory. 1 John 3:8 — for this cause was the Son of Man made manifest, that he might destroy the works of the devil — from sin to death to sickness, whatever you can catalogue.

Tonight we look at one of the resources of the Spirit that Jesus brought as an instrument of annihilating the works of the devil: the force of eternal life.

Every believer must understand how to release the force of eternal life that is locked on their inside. Before going further, three things must be understood:

• What eternal life is
• Who possesses eternal life
• The effects of eternal life — so that when you deploy it, you know what it is meant to achieve

All great teachers of this subject emphasise one cardinal thing: eternal life is the God kind of life. It is the life of God — the life that animates God and his realm.

Every being has a type of life that helps give expression to its essence. What animates God and gives expression to his being is a type of life called eternal life. So when we talk about eternal life, we are dealing with realities that are possible in the class of God.

Consider animal life — there are possibilities that no matter how much you train an animal, it can never manifest, because it does not have the life to support those possibilities. Training is only designed to refine what you already have. If you do not have a possibility, no training can produce it.

So when we speak of eternal life — the God kind of life — we are talking about a force that animates possibilities in the God class.

The Hebrew and Greek Meaning

In studying eternal life, something was discovered that opens this subject wide. The Hebrew word for eternal life is he olam. What it means is remarkable: the life of the age to come.

Eternal means the essence of this life supports every age, including the age that has not yet appeared. The reality of that life will fully manifest in the age that is to come.

The age to come is an age dominated by the miraculous:

• No sickness — so there are no doctors needed
• No corruption — immortality is the norm
• No death, no debt, no limitation
• Communication is through thought — telepathic
• Transportation is through bilocation — no cars, no aircraft
• Everything in that age flourishes without hindrance

So when God gave us eternal life, what he did was bypass the limitations of this age and carry us into the reality of the world that is to come. When the Bible says you are a new creation, it means you function like a being of another dispensation.

Consider aliens in films — beings from another planet, another time zone, another dispensation. When they enter your age, the things that limit you do not limit them. They show up with the reality of their own age.

Angels operate in another dispensation. If an angel entered your world, malaria could not survive on it. Cancer cannot fasten itself to an angel because the realm the angel comes from has no cancer. The angel shows up with the reality of its age.

What God did to make us invincible to the devil is give us the possibility of an age that Satan does not understand — a realm that Satan does not understand — so that the weapons of Satan against us become useless, because we are supported by the life that powers an age where Satan is helpless.

In Greek, eternal life is Zoe Aionios — the life of an age, specifically the age to come. Without that aionios, you are not dealing with the God kind of life.

So everybody who has eternal life, God expects them to live like they have already been raptured. God expects them to live like a being of the age where there is no sickness, no limitation — so that the limitations of this age cannot hurt them.

Look at Jesus when he was on earth. He could not be trapped by sickness. He lived in this world like he was already in eternity. John 3:13 — even while he came down from heaven, he came into earth like he was in heaven. He said, "The Son of Man which came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven." When Jesus was walking in Galilee, he was walking in Galilee like he was walking in heaven. He brought heaven to earth because he was living on earth with the life that those in heaven live.

When they wanted to kill Jesus, he said boldly: "No man can take my life from me. I have the power to lay it down and to take it up again."

Who Possesses Eternal Life?

These are basic truths, but they must be settled in the mind. I can tell you — pick ten Christians, nine do not truly believe they can live in divine health. It's the reality that has not yet entered their consciousness.

If you had a life from eternity, how can mosquito intimidate you?

The life you carry — if you appeared in the corridor of angels, they would not be surprised, because they expect that you should come there. Revelation 19:10 — when John was carried to heaven and wanted to worship an angel, the angel said, "Don't. I am one of your brothers."

Ephesians 3:14–15 — Paul said, "Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named." Those already in heaven are not different from us on earth. We are one family. It is the same life that supports us. What has happened is they have taken off flesh. But the life they have in heaven is the life you and I have now on earth.

So we are the family of heaven and earth. If I step into heaven, they will not be surprised because I have the life to walk there.

Eternal life did not originate from you. It was given to you. It originated from God. Psalm 36:9 — with you is the fountain of life. Job 33:4 — the Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

This life was first resident in God. Then God decided, by an act of his sovereignty and benevolence, to share that life with you. The reason you are a child of God is not because you are a Christian or joined a church. The reason you are a child of God is because God gave you his life.

The errand of Christ was to give you that life — the life he came with from heaven, the life of God, the life that sustained that civilisation. He came with that life and gave it to you, so that you have the life of God and live like an entity of that civilisation.

John 3:16 — God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish. Why will they not perish? Because he has given you a life that sustains a civilisation that cannot perish.

With that life inside you, you cannot perish. The moment that life entered you, the possibility of perishing was removed.

It removes the possibility of death. It removes the possibility of sickness. It removes the possibility of destruction. It removes the possibility of corruption from within you — because that is what sustained God. That is what sustained Christ. He gave it to you so that you will be sustained just as he is sustained.

John 5:26 — as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son to have life in himself. The life in the Father is the life in the Son. The life in the Son is the life in us.

Anything that cannot happen to the Father cannot happen to me — not because I am shouting, but because of DNA.

John 1:12–16 — as many as received him, to them he gave the authority to become the sons of God — which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. The Greek word for "of" here means same substance, same essence, same being. Those who receive eternal life became of the same essence as God, the same being as God.

2 Peter 1:4 — he has given us exceeding great and precious promises, that through these you might become partakers of his divine nature. You are a collaborator of his divine nature. Everything in him that makes him who he is — apart from his office as the Godhead — you possess it.

1 Corinthians 6:17 — whoever is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. You have become so mingled with God that your essence and his divine essence have become one.

If something were to attack you, how can it separate you from God to attack you apart from God? Anything that attacks you attacks God. Anything that affects you affects God. And so anything that would conquer you would first have to conquer God — and he is unconquerable.

The Effects of Eternal Life

1. Eternal Life Makes You One with God

   Until Jesus came, everyone walking on earth after the fall of Adam was brought near to God by mercy, by covenant. But after Jesus came, every one of us is not just brought near to God — we became joined to God. Eternal life came to make you and God one, so that the things in God can be found in you.

   Death, sin, sickness, failure — everything that is not of God, eternal life came to destroy it. If you know how to release the force of eternal life, anything inside you that is not of God — from sin to death to corruption — eternal life will kill it. It is like putting an antivirus in the system. The antivirus does not just protect the system from virus; it destroys every virus already in the system, because antivirus cannot coexist with virus.

   Romans 6:23 — the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. The way God reversed death is to bring eternal life into you. One arrow shot down two enemies — it destroys sin and it destroys death.

   Romans 8:1–2 — there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

3. Eternal Life Imparts God's Character and Nature

   You are not just one with God as doctrine. Your life literally manifests his nature and character. People will see you and say the things in your life are only found in the life of God.

   The believers were first called Christians in Antioch because when people saw them, they were replicas of Christ — in character and in manifestation.

   1 John 3:14 — we know that we have passed from death to life. He that loves not his brother abides in death. Those who have passed from death to life now have the nature of love. 1 John 4:8 — God is love. That is why eternal life imparts the nature of love, which is the nature of God.

4. Eternal Life Empowers You for Continuous Victory

   1 John 5:4 — whoever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Faith will be useless if we are not born of God. Eternal life is the substance that animates our faith.

   There is a source of energy on earth called nuclear power. When you power equipment with uranium, you do not need to recharge it for sometimes twenty years. What you carry is beyond uranium — it is a life that never fails. Even when your time on earth is over and you enter eternity, it will switch on. Even in eternity, it is potent.

5. Eternal Life Is a Guarantee for Your Inheritance

   John 5:24–25 — he that hears my word and believes on him that sent me has everlasting life; he shall not come into condemnation. He has passed from death to life.

   Death is not just the cessation of existence. Anything that undermines the quality of your existence is death in progress. Failure is a type of death. Sickness is a type of death. Defeat is a type of death. But if you have this life, the Bible calls us more than conquerors. We have passed the realm of conquering.

How to Release the Force of Eternal Life

1. True Knowledge — Know That You Have It

   If you do not know you have it, you can never manifest it. 1 John 3:14 — we know that we have passed from death to life. It is not an assumption — we know. 1 John 5:11–13 — this is the record: God has given us eternal life and the life is in his Son. He that has the Son has life. These things are written that you may know that you have eternal life.

   You need to know you have the life of God. You need to know you have the life that sustains the civilisation of eternity. You need to know that anything that cannot attack God cannot attack you.

2. Sustain the Consciousness of What You Know

   Consciousness is something that can deplete. You may know something but not have the present consciousness of it. Philemon 1:6 — that the communication of your faith might become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing that is in you. Keep it in your consciousness.

   Colossians 3:1–3 — if you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things of the earth. Because you may know you are seated with Christ, but you may set your consciousness on the things of the earth — and then your experience becomes a contradiction.

   Exposure to anointed teaching, miracle videos, and the preaching of those who demonstrate this life keeps the consciousness charged.

   Impartation comes through conduction, through convection, and through radiation. There are things you see that bring impartation. There are things you touch that bring impartation. There are things you mingle in to receive impartation.

3. Words — Speak the Life

   John 6:63 — the words I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life. You activate eternal life with words. You release it with words.

   Proverbs 4:20–23 — attend to my words, incline your ears to my sayings. Keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life unto them that find them, and health unto their flesh. The Hebrew word for health here means cure — medicine. Bind my words in your heart, for out of it are the issues, the boundaries, the possibilities of life.

   Proverbs 18:21 — the power of life and death is in the tongue. When you speak, you release life. Even dry bones can become a great army. The world was created by word — words can change anything.

4. Faith That Has Action

   James 2:19–20, 26 — as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead. When you talk, act. The man at the gate called Beautiful sat lame even after Peter spoke. Peter supported him, pulled him up — and the moment the man acted, he leaped and walked. The action is what triggers the power.

   James 1:22–24 — do not be hearers only; be doers. The man who does what he hears — that is the man who will be blessed.

5. Prayer — Travail to Release the Life

   If you do not pray, the life in you will be dormant — like oil that is congealed. Every time you pray, you make volatile the life that is on your inside. Isaiah 66:8 — as soon as Zion travailed, the child was there. The potential of life is there — but it takes travail to bring it forth.

   A baby can be formed in you, but that life will never come out until the moment labour begins. Labour dilates the cervix. If you cannot dilate, that life will be locked inside. Every mother knows that at the hour of childbearing, there must be travail.

   Building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Spirit. The word build up is the same as charge up. The way you charge a battery from 0% to 100% — that is how you charge up in the Spirit. If you will manifest life, you must be a charger.

   The protocol of travail begins with a burden. When Moses was come of age, a burden came upon him. He followed that burden to the wilderness — and that was what birthed the encounter, the power, the call, until he came back to Pharaoh a God unto Pharaoh.
