Hebrews 11:28-29 — Through faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. And by faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians attempting to do were drowned.

So it tells us here: by faith they went through the Red Sea as by dry land. They found themselves in a very difficult position, but by faith they were able to step in and go through. And when the Egyptians saw them do it, they felt that they now have a working model that they can copy. They attempted to do what the Jews had done by faith. And the Bible says that they were drowned.

As Christians walking by faith, we must be getting things done that the world attempting to do would fail at. The Bible says that by faith Moses did something — and the Egyptians also felt, "This thing, we can do it. This is the way forward. This is the only way out." They saw after the manifestation of the supernatural the logic behind the activities of God, and they attempted to do it. The Bible says they were drowned.

This morning I want to speak about a part of our beings — the essential part of us which is our human spirit — because we are essentially spirit beings. We have a soul and we live inside this body. Every activity of faith is a function of that spiritual part of your being.

People have understood to a large extent how to feed the body and how to build up the body. We also have organizations and academic institutions that focus on the development of the soul and accomplishing things through that. What the church of Jesus Christ should primarily address is the function of the human spirit.

The church should focus on that. If the church wants to give the business world some strategies and increase their output, it should come by the knowledge of spiritual things — how this part of your being can come into practical operation, assist, govern and infuse life into every single thing that you do.

This is the element in life that makes success and all of these things mysterious, because the spirit plays a particular role. It has very silent, very quiet but very powerful movements. If obeyed, it produces results. If disobeyed, it also produces results. You cannot be academically or intellectually wiser than the spiritual. You can't scheme the spirit out of being the principle governing center in the affairs of man.

Natural information feeds your soul. Physical food feeds your body. And the human spirit also needs to be fed and exercised for it to develop.

The Spirit Is God's Candle

Proverbs 20:27 — The spirit of a man is the candle of the Lord, searching the inward parts of the belly.

Your spirit is the part of you that wants to do the impossible, because you are preached by faith — to him all things are possible. To your mind, all things are not possible. Your mind says some things are possible, some things are not. But your spirit says all things are possible.

Psalm 18:28 — For thou wilt light my candle. The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

God will light my candle. When surrounded by circumstances — I don't know what I'm going to do, I don't know the way out, I don't know how to get out of this Red Sea entrapment — the Bible says, God will light my candle and the Lord my God through my spirit is going to enlighten my darkness.

God doesn't come through the body. God doesn't come through the intellect. God comes through the spirit. So we've got to learn to cooperate with God through our spirit. Learn to become conscious of our spirits and operate with God through our spirit.

Job said: "Oh that I were as in the months past, as in the days when God preserved me, when his candle shined upon my head, and by his light I walked through darkness." — when thoughts were coming into his mind from his spirit.

What distinguished Job? When he was faced with situation — at the Red Sea, it was by his light, as his candle or his spirit being lit into his mind — he walked through situations which others whom God had not yet lit up their candles could not go through.

What Poisons the Spirit

What poisons the spirit? What brings darkness there? Malice. He that hated his brother — the darkness comes in. This is why hatred must be taken out of your life. The cost is too great. It shuts out your entire spiritual operation.

Malice will keep you from seeing that you are completely successful. Your prison doors are open. You are not trying to open it — it's just that you need to see that it is open.

Learn to forgive. Just release — let the resentment go. That is the beginning of your liberation. You understand? Start coming out. Get the poison out of your spirit so that you can operate clearly in the spiritual and you can operate by the things of God.

The Language of Faith

How do you start getting in contact with your spirit to start getting things done? This is the principal part. You learn the language. When you want to get anything done, the first thing is the language. You learn the language of the spirit.

What is the language of spirit? The language of faith. What is the language of faith? You call into existence those things that be not as though they were. That is the beginning.

When God went to destroy humanity at Babel and bring back unity, he said, "Change the language of everybody." If you want to come into harmony with God, speak the same language of God. God calls into existence those things that be not as though they were. They talk about it as though it were. Are you seeing faith?

The battle is this: In the face of opposition, we are still calling it as though it were. The flesh is crying, "Can't you see that what you are saying is not what you are seeing?" And you go beyond that. This is how it starts in practice.

You won't get something, but it comes to you when you see something that doesn't conform with that thing — depression enters. You go back and keep calling until that weight is lifted. You go back and keep speaking until what caused that depression is lifted. And what happens? You cannot be assaulted, and even if you hear somebody say those same words that caused depression yesterday, today nothing — it just bounces off.

The Bible says the kingdom of God is as if a man will cast seed into the ground. That word "cast" is the same word used for "cast out devils" — which means force the seed inside the ground. What is happening? You are forcing that image into your spirit.

Images have power. Once something is an image on the inside of you, place that on the inside — it is going to come out.

Commune with your heart on the bed and be still — meditate on this. You can spend one hour thinking until the thing starts growing from the inside and becoming real to you. The tangibility of that vision — you are feeling it. These are the things that you practice that make you strong.

You must want it more than any other thing. People and God never finance need. People and God only finance visions. You can't say somebody give you 10 million — never put down a correct vision. Resources go in the way of vision, not in the way of need.

The passion that is inside you — your love for that thing — the Bible says is a hope set before you, an anchor to your soul. Through that you are going to penetrate the spiritual. You must want it more than any other thing — this is who I am and this is what I want out of life.

So keep pressing in. The Bible says a trial of your conviction has come to try whether it is genuine faith or not. If it is true and inside you, you will hold on. Even if nobody encourages you, you will find the strength inside yourself: this is my own passion, I'm not letting go.
