Three Baptisms

Luke 3:16

John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water — but He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. Three baptisms are here: the baptism of water, the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues, and the baptism of fire.

Jesus came to send that fire. He came so that men and women could become people of fire.

What Fire Does

The goldsmith makes iron hot so that the iron becomes malleable — able to be shaped. Fire removes impurities. The reason so many unclean things remain in so many lives is because there is no fire.

• Fire produces heat. The reason many are cold in their Christian lives — cold when it comes to the things of God — is that there is no fire.
• Fire cooks. The reason some people's spiritual lives make no sense is because they have not been cooked by the fire of God.
• Fire symbolizes power. This is why some are powerless.
• Fire produces light. This is why some are in darkness.

Only a mad mosquito would land on top of a fire. When a person gets on fire, certain things stop coming near them.

Signs That There Is No Fire

There is a difference between the Holy Ghost possessing a person with speaking in tongues and the baptism of fire. If the baptism of the Holy Ghost is only tongues, then there is no fire.

The Baptism of Fire in the New Testament

On the Day of Pentecost, cloven tongues of fire came upon them. They were baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire. These were men who had been running and scattering when Jesus was arrested. After the fire came, they went and preached. They were beaten and they laughed. They praised God for being counted worthy to suffer for His sake.

People looked at them and said, "Where did these men get this boldness? They are unlettered men." The same unlettered, unschooled people turned Jerusalem upside down.

Revelation 3:15-16 — the word of the Lord says: I wish that you were hot or cold. If you are hot, you become a good example of what God can do. If you are lukewarm, you will be spat out. Lukewarmness is one leg in the kingdom and one leg outside.

What Happens When Fire Comes

• The person becomes zealous — a sharper battle-axe for Jesus
• Fire has no respect for sluggishness — it does not permit it
• The power of God fills the life
• The kingdom of darkness becomes afraid
• The person becomes unconquerable — too hot to handle
• Nobody can hinder; nobody can stop — the person becomes unstoppable
• Boldness replaces fear — like Peter who went from hiding to preaching in the open

Fire is an instrument of warfare. In the days of Elijah, fire was invoked from heaven and destroyed the camp of the enemy. Job said, I have gone through fire. I am purer than gold.

If a person does not carry fire, the devil comes and lands like flies and puts maggots in their life — and decay begins. But fire will preserve. Fire will make the believer a threat to the kingdom of darkness.

Fire makes a believer look like the Father in heaven. The church is not an entertainment centre — it is a warfront.
