Knowing Your Responsibility

Knowing your responsibility in the things of God is something you should never miss. When God says he is going to do something, or that something is his will, you should ask yourself: what is your role? Often times there is something to be done from your side. Sometimes maybe nothing. But when there is, and you miss it, you think God did not respond — when in fact God was waiting for you.

Moses and the Red Sea

Moses leads the children of Israel out of Egypt. They come to the Red Sea. The Egyptians are behind them with chariots. The people are angry, panicking, threatening Moses. And so Moses cries out to God.

Then God said something remarkable: Moses, you don't pray now.

Exodus 14:15 — And the Lord said unto Moses: wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward.

God told somebody it was not time to pray. Prayer is not always the first response to every crisis. Sometimes it is time to do something.

Then verse 16 — but thou lift up thy rod, stretch out thy hand over the sea and divide it. God did not say, "Tell me to divide the sea." God did not say, "Stretch your hand and I will divide it." God said: you divide it.

This is important. The response that was required was not a prayer. It was an action. And if Moses had stayed in his prayer while the assignment was waiting, the people would have concluded that God did not answer — when in reality the answer was already in Moses' hands.

Training That Expands Authority

This was not a one-time lesson. God was training Moses progressively.

When the people wanted water, God did not simply produce water for them. He said: take your rod, put it on the rock, strike the rock. Water came out.

Next time they wanted water, God gave a different instruction: take the rod, tell the rock. Just speak to it. The method changed, but the principle deepened — God was training his servant to understand the measure of authority that had been deposited in him.

Every new instruction from God is also a revelation of how much authority you carry. When Moses complied, the rock gave water. When God says stretch your hand over the sea, the implication is that the authority to divide the sea has already been placed in your hand. The action of faith activates what sovereignty has already established.

What Is Your Role?

There are moments in your life where God is not waiting for a more passionate prayer — he is waiting for an action. A step. A declaration. A stretch of the hand.

Do not cry to God about something he has already placed in your hand to do. Ask first: have I done what was given to me to do? Have I stretched my hand? Have I spoken to the rock? Have I gone forward toward the Red Sea?

When you walk in that alignment — knowing what belongs to prayer and what belongs to action — the supernatural becomes a consistent experience. Not because you figured it out, but because you stayed close enough to hear which one God is asking for in each moment.
