God Wishes Above All Things That You Prosper

3 John 1:2

Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. The phrase "above all things" is not decorative. In the original Greek, it means exactly what it says: above every other thing. God places your prosperity in a very high priority.

A godly attitude towards money is not one of indifference or disinterest. It is intentional, deliberate pursuit. There are prosperity scriptures in the Bible. Just as there are healing scriptures you meditate on to produce healing fruit, meditating on prosperity scriptures produces prosperity fruit.

You have an obligation to God's kingdom to be wealthy. The servant who buried his talent was punished not for sin — but for failing to multiply what was given to him.

Satan's Problem with the Righteous Rich

Job 1:6-11

When God boasted about Job to Satan — pointing to his integrity, his fear of God, his blamelessness — Satan's response was not about Job's character. It was about his property.

Satan said: you put a wall of protection around him, his home, and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look at how rich he is. Reach out and take away everything he has, and he will curse you.

Satan cannot stand a righteous and rich man. He has a specific grievance against the combination. That is why he works so hard to demonize prosperity in the church.

Every month this prosperity series is preached, the backlash comes. No other topic triggers opposition like this one — because no other topic threatens the enemy's agenda like this one.

The Seed of the Righteous Will Be Wealthy

Psalms 112:1-5

The children of those who delight in God's commands will be successful everywhere. An entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.

Notice the order: they are wealthy — and therefore they can be generous and compassionate. Sympathy is free. Compassion costs money.

The Kingdom Spreads by Resources

There is a difference between a kingdom that grows and a kingdom that spreads. The church can grow strong on prayer and faith. But to spread beyond its current borders, into new cities, new nations, new spheres of influence — that requires resources.

Widow's mite cannot fund ministry at scale. It takes the money of a Good Samaritan to take care of a wounded man. It takes the wealth of a Joseph of Arimathea to give Jesus a proper burial. It took David's material preparation to give Solomon the resources to build the temple.

God wants his city to spread. And it cannot spread without wealth.
