AI solves surface-level problems well: generating ideas, writing captions, producing basic content at volume and speed. But when that layer is removed, the human element remains — judgment, precision, the ability to read a room, the ability to promise outcomes and be held to them.

The creative space is genuinely threatened. Most organizations want maximum profit, which means the same result or better at lower cost. Why pay thousands of dollars for a photographer or videographer to go through an entire creative process when a prompt can generate dozens of options in minutes? That pressure is real and growing.

But AI cannot promise outcomes. A human creative can.

"I will create this campaign and you will do 50 million views every week" — put that in writing, stake your name and livelihood on it, and be sued if it fails. AI cannot do that. Holding an AI generator legally accountable for a failed result is highly debatable. Holding a person who gave their word in writing is not.

What a creative should be charging for right now is not just aesthetics — it is the predictability of their results and the accountability that comes with their word.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect and the Illusion of Competence

Before any class is taught, two concepts are introduced: the Dunning-Kruger effect and the illusion of competence. People think that because they have watched something, they know it. Knowing only comes through practice. The two are not the same, and the gap between them is where most creatives fail to build a sustainable business.

The people most confident in their ability are often those with the least actual competence. Those who actually perform well tend to be the most conservative in their self-assessment. Understanding this gap — in clients, in students, in oneself — is foundational to operating at a higher level.

The Business of the Gift

For a long time, because things came easily, there was no urgency to charge for them. The gift felt like something that should just be given. But as time passed, it became clear that this was not sustainable — and that the pattern had a name.

Undercharging and overdelivering. Staying late. Adding extras. Avoiding firm boundaries. Charging properly triggering guilt. Fearing rejection more than loss. Compensating with effort rather than correcting with pricing.

This pattern drains businesses quietly — not through lack of talent, but through lack of self-permission. Generosity without safety becomes self-betrayal.

Until pricing is internal — rooted in a clear sense of value rather than emotional response to the client — it will stay emotional. And burnout will follow.

Anyone who truly values something will be able to pay for it. The mentor who invested thousands of dollars in their own education — studying practitioners from different countries, sometimes hiring interpreters to access their work — cannot simply give that same investment away for free and expect the recipient to honor it the way they honored the cost to acquire it.

Borderless Thinking Is the Differentiator

Nigeria has remarkable creative minds. The constraint is not talent — it is thinking that stays inside national borders. Creativity has no borders. A picture will be understood whether the viewer is British, American, Chinese, or Nigerian.

The moment a creative removes the geographic box from their self-concept — stops asking "will this work in Nigeria?" and starts asking "will this work for a human being?" — the work becomes globally viable.

The creative who never puts themselves in a cultural box produces work that stands on its own terms. That is not an accident of exposure. It is a deliberate practice of training the way you see, the way you think, and the way you execute.

How a Creative Mind Actually Works

The mind of a serious creative is always gathering data. Watching every commercial produced by major brands. Reading photography books before every shoot. Storing scenes, lighting techniques, compositional approaches. Not watching movies as entertainment but as a data collection exercise.

The key shift is learning to live in the mind of the end user — not the organization. The organization is the contractor. The end user is the audience. When a perfume brand is asked who their competitor is and they name other perfume brands, the deeper answer is: any business that gives people a reason not to spend money on your product. The dry cleaner who perfumes people's clothes so well they don't need to use their own perfumes is a competitor.

Once that mental shift is made — from product-centric to person-centric — pricing, positioning, and storytelling all follow a different logic.

The best personal brand photography is not taken in a studio with planned poses. It is captured across five hours of conversation, in natural light, catching emotion, anger, pain, laughter — without the subject knowing they are being photographed. Those images cannot be replicated. They cannot be acted. That is what commands premium pricing.

Great Stories Are Simple

The lesson from twelve weeks of intensive storytelling training: if someone's grandmother who does not understand English cannot understand the story, it will not work.

Not: "I bought this jug because it purifies water through O2 saturation and proprietary filtration technology."

But: "I bought this jug because it gives clean water."

Understanding is more important than impressing people with language. The story that reaches is the one that is simple enough to be told in any language and still land.

A 40-year plan is not unusual for people who think this way. Studios. Movies. Communities of trained creatives who can execute at the highest level. The ambition is not small — but the philosophy governing the steps toward it is rooted in clarity, simplicity, and the compounding of consistent deliberate practice.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
