Exodus 16

They took their journey from Elim and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

Every time there is mention of people living in Egypt, the thought arises of what so many Christians carry out of their old life. They leave Egypt — but Egypt doesn't leave them. You can tell who those people are when you see them in church. They have no respect for God, no fear for the things of the Spirit, no regard for the ministry. But thank God for those who know Jesus. When you are saved, you fear the Lord and serve him with due respect.

The Gift of Murmuring

The whole congregation murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness — that was their preoccupation. And they said: "Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we did eat bread to the full — for you have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

They looked back at bondage and called it comfort. It is the same today. The gift of wanting to go back to Egypt — to die in the land where sorrow is — is not from God. To mortgage your conscience for flesh and blood is not the will of God.

But verse 4 — man has said what he needed to say. Now God wants to speak.

"Then said the Lord unto Moses: Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you."

God has the answer. They were murmuring because of flesh and bread in Egypt. But God had taken them out of the land of too small to the land of more than enough. From the land of death to the land of life. From the land of sorrow to the land of joy. From the land of pity to the land of plenty.

Daily Bread, Daily Diligence

God said he would rain bread from heaven. And the people were to go out and gather a certain rate every day. The next bread will be for every day. But notice — it is not coming to your room. It is falling in the field.

Some people are lazy at their work, making so many excuses, doing it like a government job. But the Bible says: whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might — so that the world may see you and glorify your Father in heaven. Go out. Every day, daily bread will come — but every day you have to leave your house to go and collect it.

God said he would bring the bread and flesh. At evening they would eat flesh; in the morning they would be filled with bread. He said: "You are not murmuring against us — you are murmuring against the Lord."

In an attempt to make double money, people mortgage their conscience. They don't care what they do to get money, provided cash comes to hand. The Bible says there is good success and there is bad success. Success that leads you to hell is a trap — don't fall for it.

God Rains Manna

The Bible says: when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as hoarfrost on the ground. The children of Israel saw it and said one to another: "What is it?" And Moses said: "This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat."

In the face of all scarcity, God blanketed the whole field with bread and meat. He protected it from sand; he sealed it from the sun. When you took the manna out, there was no need for preparation — when you put it in your mouth, it was ready. Your next miracle will not require too much labour.

Jesus came four thousand years later and taught: when you pray, pray this way — "Give us this day our daily bread." Give me today what I need — and tomorrow I won't have to beg again. I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

The Lord tells Moses: for as many as are in your house, they will get enough bread. Your next miracle is not just for you alone — it will be for you and your family.

My dear heavenly Father, I have heard your word. I will look out for my manna. My flesh and meat are coming — with no stain on them, but with your miracles, with your blessings. My heart is open for you to bless me and my household. From now I will pick from your field everything you have for me, and it shall be more than enough for me and my family. In Jesus name.

May these hands not be empty anymore. Whatever they are laid upon to do from now — it shall prosper to the glory of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Jesus name.

God meets you at the point of your need. Your daily bread is coming. Every door that was closed — God is going to open it in the name of Jesus. No member of your family will suffer from now to the glory of God. More than enough is coming in Jesus name.

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
