Pastor Philip Olubakin Preaching - Gather Up the Fragments (Part 2)
Sermon

lightbulb Message Summary - Key Nuggets

  • God is never a one-off; every encounter is meant to build on the last.
  • Write down exactly what God said within 24 hours, not just how it felt.
  • Build a daily routine now, before the feeling of the encounter fades.
  • Association shapes destiny; some relationships must be cut off, not just managed.

Mark 4:15

These are those by the wayside where the word is sown, but when they have heard it, immediately comes the enemy and takes away the word sown in their hearts.

The enemy does not need to stop God from moving. He only needs someone to fail to gather what was released. A recent gathering carried real weight, testimonies of healing, prophetic words spoken directly over people's lives, and God's emphasis was the same one He gave His disciples after the loaves and fishes: gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

God Is Never a One-Off

God does not use a person once and abandon them. If He drew close enough to speak into a life, it was never intended to end there. Moses' rod became a snake and then was picked back up, because there was still a Red Sea to part. When God does something in a life, He is establishing a pattern meant to continue, and the danger is not that the encounter was fake, it is that people get so overwhelmed by what already happened that they miss what God still intends to do. What is beyond the number six is not simply seven, it can be a thousand, a million, far more than the mind first imagines. The best of what God is doing has not yet been seen.

Life Moves in Seasons

2 Kings 3:16-17

Thus says the Lord, make this valley full of ditches, for though you see neither wind nor rain, the valley will be filled. Rain does not fall every day of the year, no matter how much God loves someone, and the valley only stays full in the dry season because ditches were dug ahead of time to trap what fell during the rain. A season of outpouring is not given for enjoyment alone, it is given for preparation. The ant gathers food in summer specifically because winter is coming; wasting a season of harvest guarantees begging in the season that follows.

Three Fragments Worth Gathering Deliberately

  1. Immediate Capture

Within the first twenty four hours, write down everything God said, specifically, not vaguely. "I felt close to God" is not enough; what exactly did God confront, promise, or correct? Joshua 4:7 records stones set up as a memorial the moment the Jordan's waters were cut off, precisely because memory fades but a written record does not. The entire book of Genesis and Exodus exist because someone was diligent enough to write down what God said. Feelings from a powerful encounter will not still be present on an ordinary Monday morning; a written record will be.

  2. Decision and Daily Routine

A mountaintop experience is not sustainable on its own; it needs a daily routine built underneath it to prevent spiritual crash once the initial feeling fades. This has to be specific and written down, not a vague intention to "try to grow spiritually," a set time of prayer, a set portion of scripture, something concrete enough that an accountability partner could check on it. Whatever the recent season stirred up needs a next-day action attached to it immediately, since delay is exactly the gap the enemy exploits.

  3. Company

Association is one of the most underestimated forces shaping a life. Many mistakes people make in life trace back less to the person's own weakness and more to the company they kept at the time. Jonathan and David, Paul and Barnabas, Paul and Silas, Timothy and Paul are the pattern of strong association that builds rather than erodes. Some relationships genuinely need to be cut off entirely rather than merely managed, and reconnecting with people who were already identified as harmful undoes the very discipline meant to protect the fragile ground gained after a real encounter with God. A fire burns higher because of the number of sticks feeding it; the same principle governs spiritual company.

Don't Take a Spiritual Vacation

The season right after a genuine outpouring is often when the most ground is lost, not because the encounter was false, but because vigilance relaxes exactly when it should intensify. Seasons of celebration and rest do not pause spiritual warfare. The purpose of a wilderness season is to remove some things and bring in others, not simply to be endured; God brought His people out in order to bring them into something, and that "something" has to be actively pursued rather than passively expected.

Leviticus 6:12-13

The fire on the altar was to be kept burning continually; it was not to go out. The priest had to add wood to it every morning. Even fire that originated supernaturally still required a natural, daily discipline to sustain it, prayer, the word, study, and the right company. God will not sustain a fire in a person's heart without their own daily participation in feeding it.

Lord, give me strength for what needs to happen starting today, not tomorrow.

  • Give me the discipline to write down and hold on to everything You have spoken.
  • Give me strength to cut off what needs to be cut off, and to forgive what needs to be released.
  • Bring me into godly association, the way You brought Paul to Barnabas and Paul to Timothy.

In Jesus' name, amen.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
