The Life of Moses

Hebrews 11:24 — By faith Moses, when he was come of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter.

Moses was born at a time when every male child was to be killed. The customs and traditions of that time were against him. But Moses ended up a deliverer. He was born in the midst of rejection, in a time when he was not allowed to live — and yet he became Moses.

Do not focus on what is against you. Focus on what is for you. Never be swallowed up by the battles that come your way, by the trials that come your way. Moses was born at a time of universal decree against his background — and still he became a face-to-face prophet.

Numbers 12 tells us God spoke with Moses face to face. There are different levels of the prophetic — some prophets hear God in their ears, some in their spirit, some through dark speeches and parables. But Moses was in the highest level. God appeared and tabernacled with him.

In Jeremiah 15:1, God said if Samuel and Moses stood before him, he still would not forgive a certain people. These were two men who had the capacity to change God's mind. When God said he would wipe out Israel, Moses said, Lord, you will not do that. If you do, your integrity is at stake. Even when Moses argued with God, it was still about God — not about himself.

But Moses became Moses because of one thing — by faith he refused.

Rejected at Birth, Chosen for the Nations

When Moses was born, his mother placed him in an ark of rushes by the riverbank. They were watching from afar to see what would become of his life.

The daughter of Pharaoh came to bathe. In the palace there were swimming pools and better rivers. But God moved her to a public space because there was a child who was meant for a public generation.

Being strategically positioned is not enough — you must cry out. It was not enough that Moses was there. If Moses had not cried, Pharaoh's daughter would have walked past.

The sister was nearby. She said to Pharaoh's daughter, I know a woman who can take care of this boy — and she recommended Moses' own mother. So Moses, at three months old, gave his mother a job.

But Pharaoh's daughter gave him the name Moses — an Egyptian name meaning I drew him from water. Everything that happened in Moses' life happened around water — the Red Sea, the well where he met Zipporah, the rock he struck, the river where he was found. All by reason of that name.

What You Are Raised to Be vs. What You Are Born to Be

One day Moses saw an Egyptian fighting an Israelite. God was showing him a vision of his life. The Egyptian represented where he was raised to be. The Israeli represented where he was born to be.

There is what you are raised to be and there is what you are born to be. A nationality, a situation, a difficulty may have tried to raise you. But you are not what you are raised to be. You are what you are born to be.

For he that is born of God overcometh the world. And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Never give up because of your situation. You are what you were born to be, not what difficulty tried to make you.

How to Correct the Error — Three Steps

First: Pursue growth.

When Moses was come of age, he grew. Growth is the first correction. Desire to grow. In your career, grow. In your spiritual life, grow. In intimacy with God, grow.

2 Peter 3:18 — grow in grace. Ephesians 4:15 — speaking the truth in love, that we may grow up into him in all things. Luke 2:52 — Jesus grew in wisdom and stature.

Growth is dependent on atmosphere. You cannot plant in rock. You need good soil. The atmosphere you surround yourself with determines your growth. There are atmospheres that are anti-growth — growth pollutants.

One sign of growth is intimacy with God. When your children are small, you tell them don't go out. When they grow, they ask you where you are going. Communication changes. Your prayer changes — you no longer have prayer points. You have love points. Your prayer becomes, Lord, I want to know you more.

Acts 9:6 — Paul said, what will you have me to do? That is the prayer of a grown person. You communicate as a son. You commune with God. You stand at a point of intimacy where you just love him.

When you grow, breakthroughs pursue you. You do not pursue breakthroughs. As you love God, things align.

Second: Refuse.

Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. You must take your stand.

Matthew 18:18 — whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. What you bind on earth is what heaven binds. So if you bind tumor on earth, it will be bound in heaven. If you bind cancer on earth, it will be bound in heaven. If you bind disease on earth, it will be bound in heaven.

In Isaiah 59:19 — when the enemy comes like a flood, the spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against him.

In Romans 8:11 — if that spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, it shall quicken your mortal bodies.

You can reject what is not of God. You can cancel it. You can rebuke it. Say: I refuse it.

1 Peter 5:8 — be sober, be vigilant. Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Refuse him.

You can refuse what a medical report says. You can cancel it. The only report that finally stands is the report of God's word. Healing is older than sickness. Before sickness, healing was. By his stripes you were healed. Man does not have the final say. Medicine does not have the final say. Jesus has the final say.

Third: Have faith.

The scripture says by faith he refused. Faith is the currency. Faith is action. Faith is you saying back to God what he said to you.

Hebrews 11:1 — now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith Abel. By faith Enoch. By faith Noah. By faith Abraham. By faith Sarah received strength to conceive seed.

Abraham left his home not knowing where he was going — moved by faith. Faith is a universal currency. By faith it works in America, in London, in Europe, in Asia. Our faith is especially powerful because our faith is in God — not in education, not in the government, not in circumstances.

When you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, it is not about the size. Just have it. Just believe in your heart. When we pray, believe. When we call upon him, believe.

Lord, you said in your word I am healed. You said in your word I am free. I am saying back to you what you said to me. Father, by your stripes I am healed. Let your healing virtue begin to flow on everyone here from the top of the head to the sole of the feet. I bind and cast out every infirmity. I break every curse of infirmity. Every arrow of infirmity fired into any organ of the body — go back to your senders in the name of Jesus.

I decree and declare — whatever is in your life or about your life that you are not happy with, you can refuse it. I refuse every attack in my body. I refuse every addiction. I refuse every trouble over my family. I refuse limitation. In the name of Jesus, over your children, over your finances, over your health — I refuse it. Whatever the doctor has said, Jesus has the final say. Your battles will not swallow you up. God will bring you out of them all. There is a restoration coming — of all that you have lost. God is bringing peace in your life and sending help in the very areas where you are asking for help. God is putting an end to evil patterns. Evil patterns — expire in Jesus name.
