God Governs by His Declared Word

Psalm 107:20: "He sent his word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions."

God is a king — not a prime minister, not a president. He rules by decree. His authority travels with his word. He does not need to perform physical activities to govern; the spoken word carries the full weight of his authority. The book of Genesis itself is the product of the authority of the Eternal — the world was made by divine utterance. There is nothing in creation that can refuse to obey the authority of God as expressed through his word.

Notice the word "destructions" — plural. There is more than one type of destruction. The scope of what God delivers from is wide:

• Scorpions — systems of evil in the realm of darkness manifesting through suffering, afflictions, and reproaches
• The shadow of death and spiritual bondage
• Curses — judgments programmed to detonate at critical moments in destiny

What a Curse Is

A curse is a judgment that has been proclaimed. If it has been proclaimed and there is no cause to justify it, the curse will not stand. If there is a cause — a reason for the judgment — the curse will rest upon the person to whom it has been declared.

Consider this testimony: a man stole a bicycle. The owner went to a spiritual authority and had rites performed. A declaration was made: whoever stole the bicycle, any time he eats rice, he will become ill. That was a curse — a judgment, backed by a spirit appointed to watch over it and ensure it was fulfilled.

What makes a curse come to pass is not the declaration alone, but the spiritual force that watches over the words to ensure their fulfillment. The spirit of that occult authority began to watch over that word. The thief died — but years later, the son of the thief began to experience the same symptoms whenever he ate rice. The two actors in the original robbery scenario were dead, but the spirit continued to implement the judgment onto the next generation.

The only way the curse was reversed was when the son went to a prophet, who revealed the curse and its cause, and instructed him to buy a new bicycle and return it to the descendants of the original owner. When the cause was satisfied — when restitution was made — the curse lost its place. From that day, the son could eat rice without incident.

A curse without cause cannot stand. But as long as the cause exists, the judgment will manifest.

The Conditional Promise — Numbers 23

Many believers recite the verse "there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel" as though it were an unconditional standing protection. Study the context carefully.

The story involves Balaam, the great-great-grandson of Abraham through his concubine Keturah. Abraham gave gifts to his children from other wives and released them so they would not contest Isaac's inheritance. Among those gifts was a spiritual capacity — because they were still children of Abraham. Balaam inherited a supernatural ability: whoever he cursed was cursed, and whoever he blessed was blessed. Over time, he did not operate this gift through its original divine channel but through another spirit — he had a calling from God but was diverted into witchcraft.

Balak, king of Moab, was intimidated by the presence of Israel in the land. Taking stock of his military capacity, he concluded that a direct military engagement would fail. So he hired Balaam to curse Israel. Numbers 22:6: "Come, I pray thee, curse me this people — for they are too mighty for me — that I may smite them and that I may drive them out of the land — for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed."

Now read the condition that made the curse unable to work. Numbers 23:19-21: "God is not a man, that he should lie — neither the son of man, that he should repent. Hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless — and he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel. The Lord his God is with him."

Do you see the condition? "He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel." It was the absence of iniquity that made the enchantment powerless. This is not an unconditional promise. It is a conditional protection. The protection was active over Israel at that moment because God could look into the camp of Israel and find no iniquity and no perverseness.

Many good men and women — sincere believers — live under the horn of a curse. And one reason the curse has not been broken is that the condition of the promise has not been met. The active Christian who recites "there is no spell against Jacob" should recite it with knowledge — understanding that this is not a blanket guarantee, but a covenant condition.

Symptoms of a Curse

How does a curse manifest in someone's life? These are the evidences that a judgment is active:

• Losing battles at critical moments. The person may be intelligent, capable, and qualified — but every time a trial, assessment, or test comes, they are diminished. They cannot handle what should be within their capacity. If this pattern repeats consistently at important junctures, something is working against success. The king of Moab took stock and concluded that Israel was too strong for a direct fight — but with a curse operating, their power would not count. That pattern of inexplicable failure is a symptom.
• Closed doors of destiny. There are doors of favor, opportunity, and partnership that seem supernaturally sealed. Every time the person approaches the door of destiny, a supernatural force prevents entry. This is a symptom of judgment manifesting as a spirit of reproach at the threshold.
• The spirit of reproach — being pulled into the past. If someone consistently dreams of the village where they grew up, scenes from childhood replaying persistently — this suggests a spirit of reproach anchoring them to the past. A curse can operate as a tether that prevents forward movement.
• Inexplicable illness and strange cycles of sickness. A person who was healthy and begins experiencing cycles of strange illnesses — especially after crossing a particular threshold or moment — may have trampled on something spiritually. A spiritual trap intended for another person can be stumbled upon, and from that point a cycle of affliction begins.

A Curse Operates Like a Judgment

The testimony of a colonel visited for prayer illustrates this clearly. The man was physically strong — good weight, healthy vital signs, normal blood pressure. But in the spirit, his life was over. A declaration had been made against him — a just judgment, because he was guilty of what he was being judged for. His physical condition was irrelevant; the judgment had been pronounced, and the spirit assigned to watch over it was implementing it. His life ended weeks after the visit.

This is the nature of a curse: it operates at a level deeper than the physical. Medical tests may show nothing wrong. Business plans may be sound. The person may be competent. But if a judgment has been declared and there is cause for it, the curse will manifest — in finances, in promotion, in relationships, in health — in whatever way the declaration touches.

The Task of Breaking Curses

Because God governs by his word, and because he is a God of justice, judgment, and equity, the breaking of a curse must also follow legal principles. A curse that has cause cannot simply be dismissed by prayer. The cause must be addressed. Restitution may be required. Confession and repentance may be necessary. But when the cause is removed — when the ground upon which the judgment rested is taken away — the declaration loses its hold.

The task given through this ministry is to break curses — to identify the judgment, locate its cause, and through the word and the Spirit of God, defuse the declarations that have been working against lives. He sent his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
