The Departments of Faith
Faith has departments, faith has dimensions. It is important to understand the departments of faith for productive deployment of the force of faith. Some think faith is something you believe, belief is a department of it, but that is not all faith is. Charismatics and Pentecostals think it is something you say, confession is a part of it, but that is not all there is to faith. In Mark 11:23, whosoever shall say unto this mountain, "Be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea," and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Insight in the Word of God
Faith begins with the word. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The word of God is the bedrock and foundation of faith. Every faith not based on the word has no future, it will collapse with time. An evangelist once said faith means jumping into the air with nothing under your feet but the word, you are suspended, but the word is under you. When Jesus told Peter to come, Peter was not walking on the water, he was walking on the word "come." When he looked away and saw the wind boisterous, he let go of that word and began to sink. The word of God has the capacity to hold things together. It is critical for everyone who will walk in faith to have resident revelation in any area of life, so you know the reason for your stand, whether it is your financial stand or your stand on divine health.
Belief in the Heart
The ultimate purpose of revelation is conviction. The revelation of the word is designed to install conviction in the heart, for with the heart man believeth. Whatever you say you saw in the Bible is useless until it installs belief and changes the way you see things. Your believing determines your becoming, as many as believed, he gave them power to become.
Mindset Adjustment
Faith people have a way they think, and it affects their results, for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. They don't think beggarly, they don't think defeated. That was the mentality Abraham showed when he told the king of Sodom he would not collect anything from him, in case the king said he had made Abraham rich. Faith people respect people but feel inferior to nobody under heaven. It doesn't matter what you believe, if it has not changed your mindset, that belief is not strong enough to change your outcome.
The Attitude of Expectancy
Faith people have palpable expectancy, they are strangers to despair and discouragement. It was magnetic expectation that made the mantle of Elijah drop for Elisha to pick up, Elijah did not hand it to him, it fell, pulled by the desperation and expectation in Elisha's heart. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, so before there can be faith, there must be hope. You cannot be completely hopeless and still have faith.
The Right Utterance
Having the same spirit of faith, we believe and so we speak. Active faith is speaking faith, declarative faith. It is declaration from the abundance of conviction, whatever fills your heart will overflow through your mouth. If it is too big for you to speak, it means your conviction is too small to change your life. The proof of belief is declaration, once it is sufficient in your heart, it will escape your mouth even without your permission. There is a difference between confession and declaration. Confession is saying what the Bible said, "By his stripes I am healed." Declaration is when revelation has produced conviction and you state your position without needing to explain it: "I cannot be sick." When his wife was bleeding during a pregnancy and feared she had miscarried, he responded, "The devil that can push that child out is not born," and the pregnancy went full term.
The Act of Obedience
This is looking into the scripture for what God said you should do. Responsibility is a platform for possibility, nothing is possible until someone is responsible. Let us stop looking for scriptures to quote and start looking for scriptures to obey. They filled the water pots, and the water became wine. He launched his net into the deep, and there was a catch of fishes. Your faith is not just to take the promise out of the word, it is to do what he says you should do so that he can do what he says he will do. Ephesians 5:25 and its companion instruction, husbands love your wives, wives submit to your own husbands, are not matters to keep praying about, they are matters to act on.
Intimacy with God
People of faith know God, they have depth with him. Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. As you get to know God, it becomes easy to trust him, you cannot trust a stranger. Relationship is the basis of request, the stronger your relationship, the more confident you are to make a request and be sure it will be met. As we behold, as in a glass, the glory of the Lord, we are changed into the same image. The more you look at him, the more you look like him, and there is no fear, doubt, or unbelief in God.
Practical Action
Believing translates into behavior, for as many as believed on him, he gave them power to become. In Mark 5:27, the woman with the issue of blood heard of Jesus, came in the press behind him, and touched his garment, she believed something and she behaved something. In Genesis 14:22-23, Abraham told the king of Sodom he would not take so much as a thread or a shoe latchet, lest the king say he had made Abraham rich, his belief that only God could make him produced that action. A woman with rheumatoid arthritis who had been carried into a service on a wheelchair heard the teaching that what you are not resisting, you are assisting, and that if you are healed, you should do what healed people do. She rose from her bed, dressed, and walked into the church the next morning to testify that she had done what healed people do and was healed. In the journey of faith, action is the switch of power, the move of man will always provoke the move of God. During preparations for a major dedication with only ten days and insufficient funds, the instruction was to leave the reserve account untouched and trust that the needed funds would come, and they came without the reserve being touched.
The Act of Praise
In Psalm 106:12, they believed his word, they sang his praise. In 1 Peter 1:8, believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. When you believe, before you see the manifestation, you explode with praise. At the sight of the multitude to be fed, Jesus took five loaves and two fishes, lifted up his eyes and gave thanks before the miracle happened. Don't wait for it to happen before you praise, praise it into happening, praise it into manifestation. When you are convinced that what you are expecting is guaranteed because of who promised it, you do not wait for the expectation to happen, you praise before it happens, and because you are praising, it is expedited.
Confidence in God
After all else, somebody must possess confidence, trust in God. He that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Most people subconsciously suspect God, wondering whether he truly loves them equally or means what he says. We must not live by the experiences of people who served God and seemingly ended miserably, we live by the revelations of the word. There must be confidence in four areas: the reality and realness of God, that he exists; the reliability and dependability of God, that he does not say one thing and mean another; the integrity of God, that he is stable, "I am the Lord, I change not"; and the love and mercifulness of God, that if you do not believe in his power, you can at least believe in his mercy, for he is too merciful to leave you in your mess. Above all, there must be confidence in the omnipotence and ability of God, that he is capable of doing what man cannot do.
May God pull you to a higher dimension of relationship, a higher dimension of intimacy, in the name of Jesus.
