The spirit of revelation(Deriving profit from scripture)
By Apostle Joshua Selman
The church is called the house of God, because of the presence of God. What gives value to the church is the presence of God.
The singular definition of the house of God is not just where God dwells, but where he has chosen to reveal himself.
How to be an active participant:
1. By listening
2. Listen with the determination to practice what you've heard
Isaiah 60:15
Deuteronomy 28:1&3
Genesis 12:2-3
1 John 3:2
"Nobodies" are empty enough to be filled by God.
The Spirit of Revelation
2 Timothy 3:16
God prevailed over the authors of the bible, so that while using their own styles of writing and in spite of the difference in their understandings and their personalities they still recorded what God intended.
When the bible says, "all scriptures were inspired by God" it does not mean the bible was not dictated by God, guided and inspired by him.
The Central point of the bible is God, his love his creation, man's fall and inadequacies, Jesus as the saviour and only remedy and the gospel and salvation in its entire scope.
The accuracy of the bible is not in the flawlessness of its writing, nor the personalities of the authors, but in its ability to deliver God's intent as far as the revelation of God, Jesus, man and salvation is concerned.
The bible is not flawless as an archaeological nor a historic material. The bible as a capture of literature is not flawless.
When Jesus and the plan of salvation becomes your compass to navigate the scripture, it becomes accurate.
If the bible is centered on these things, Can a believer use the bible to solve other issues in life.
While Jesus came to the earth his goal was salvation, but that was not all he did.
You have to read the bible as a spiritual man.
Romans 8:6
Eph 1:17-18
Every story in the bible contains within it, lessons or principles that can help the believer to work in victory.
Romans 15:4
There's a provision he gives you to read any scripture and gain profit from it, it called the spirit of revelation.
2 Timothy 3:16
Matthew 22:29-30
John 5:39
The reason why you can read many things and even teach it, but the result that follows does not come, because light has not come.
What profits you is not the verse nor the stories, what profits you is the light.
Eph 1:18
John 1:9
Jesus taught and yet they were still unfruitful, because they hadn't received the spirit of revelation.
The profiting of scripture is only derived from the spirit of revelation.
2 Timothy 3:16
You don't have to be blind to see wrongly, once you are not guided you may see wrongly.
The four fold assignment of the spirit of revelation
1. To give you light from scripture. Light meaning lessons, mysteries, principles from it that help you know God, help you understand his eternal plan but also help live an excelling spiritual life. John 1:12
Connect the believer to God's eternal plan. 2 Timothy 3:15
2. Help you draw out lessons or principles from scriptures that empower to work in total victory.
3. Inspire the minds of the believer so that he is able birth thoughts and ideas that translate to productivity and advancement.
Isaiah 11:3, Job 32:8
This is what God is helping us to do, to penetrate systems and structures to translate spirituality and give it a context of intelligence that provides value, value applicable in nation building, value applicable in terms of human resources.
The end product of journey to your spirituality is not fanatism and extremism. Translating spirituality to a context that lead to personal and territorial transformation.
4. The spirit of revelation activates the various prophetic dimension of a believer.
Joel 2:28-29
Luke 2:8
The bible contains wholesome profiting to the believer, even though not flawless historically, linguistically....
But the moment the bible becomes channeled from the revelation of God, the revelation of Jesus as saviour and remedy to man and creation, the revelation of the gospel and the revelation of salvation, the bible becomes accurate, regardless what you are reading and regardless the imperfections your eyes may observed.
You can never be illudded into error if you allow the spirit of revelation to guide your understanding.
Isaiah 8:18
The primary assignment of scripture is to help men understand God, understand the state of mam outside God, understanding Jesus as a representation of the father's love to man, understand the gospel and understand salvation in its entirety.
The focal point in the study of scripture is the testimony of the love of God, revealed in and through the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus. Man and creation being the object of that sacrifice and the entire mercy plan is captured in what we call the gospel, captured in what we call salvation. When you have that as a pillar, every other blessing that comes from scripture becomes an addition not a replacement.
Ignoring the society where you are planted is selfishness. You must factor in the effect of your spirituality or otherwise and the effect of your orientation on their overall well being.
At the back of anything that destroys society is an orientation and those who do it believe that they are communicating truth or pleasing some kind of deity somewhere.
It is important to restore Christianity, spirituality or the faith practice as intended by God.
Let's give an opportunity to someone to come to God.
